Sermon Series: Hearing God’s Voice Listening Prayer 1 – We can hear Him personally (John 10:27; Luke 10:38-42) Pr Chris Kam 8/9 August 2020 ============================================ (John 10:27) “My sheep listen to my voice.” Sermon 1: We can hear Him personally Sermon 2: We can hear Him clearly Sermon 3: We can hear Him corporately BIG IDEA: As followers of Jesus Christ, we can hear the Voice of God. (Ephesians 6:18) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (Matthew 6: 8) …… for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 1. So, can I ________________ the voice of God? (John 10:27) My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:3-4) 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 2. What’s ________________ me from hearing the voice of God? (Psalm 46:10) “Be still, and know that I am God;” (Luke 10:39-40) 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” (Luke 10:41-42) 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” 3. How do I ________________ forward from here? (Genesis 3:8-10) 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” (Luke 22:42-43) 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. The value of persistent prayer is not that He will hear us but that we will finally hear Him. ~ William McGill.
