BIG IDEA: If we want to live in Victory, we must be certain that we are saved by Grace through Faith in Christ. 1. The enemy ___________________ us through our five senses. #Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. #Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. Feeding of 5 thousand. (John 6:5-13) V5-Problem; V6-Challenge; V7-9-The doubt; V10-The Miracle * 1st Response – It can’t be done. It’s too big. It’s too difficult. * 2nd Response – In your doubt, start with what you have – give it to Jesus. * 3rd Response – Surrender it to Jesus and trust that He will do what He needs to do. > People’s need + Jesus + limited resources = need fulfilled + overabundance (leftovers) > My need + Jesus + limited resources = need fulfilled + overabundance > My desire + Jesus + limited talents = God’s desire fulfilled + above and beyond > Your role + Jesus + limited you = role fulfilled + above and beyond > Celebration + Jesus + limited us = Encouragement + Presence of God #2 Tim 3:5; Col 2:8; Heb 4:14 2. The enemy ___________________ us about our salvation. #Isa 59:17 He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; The bible uses difference tenses for our salvation: * Past – We have been saved (Col 1:13-14) * Present – We are being saved (Phil 2:12) * Future – One day we will be saved – our glorification. (1 Cor 15:51-54) #1 Thes 5:8; Eph 2:8-9 Application Questions ===================== 1. What is the most significant thing the Holy Spirit spoke to you about through this sermon? 2. What do these two verses, Proverbs 30:5 and Psalm 28:7, mean by God being our shield? 3. How does the enemy attack us through the five senses? How does the shield of faith protect us in the light of the story of the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:5-13)? Discuss this in the light of the three responses. Is there a situation in your life right now where you can apply these three responses to using the shield of faith? 4. Salvation is described in three separate tenses – past, present and future. What does each of this mean to you? Do you have assurance of your own salvation? Why or why not? Discuss this in the light of Eph 2:8-9.
